Cheering on the Knights will mean an early finish Tuesday—and possibly more schedule changes as Union advances.

Union’s volleyball team is headed to state, and the trip will bring a change to the school week for families across the district.

Union Community School District will dismiss students at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, with no lunch served, Superintendent John Howard announced in an October 29 letter. The Knights face Riverside in a state quarterfinal at 4 p.m. that day at Xtream Arena.

The team earned its state berth Wednesday night, according to the district’s accompanying message. Howard said the school schedule is being adjusted to allow people who want to attend the matches to do so.

After Tuesday, the school schedule depends on how far Union advances.

If the Knights win the quarterfinal, school will again dismiss at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, with no lunch served. The semifinal is scheduled for 4 p.m. If Union loses Tuesday, Wednesday will be a regular school day.

A Wednesday win would bring another 11:10 a.m. dismissal without lunch Thursday, November 5. The championship match is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. A Wednesday loss would mean a regular school day Thursday.

Elementary principals will communicate details specific to their buildings. Families should watch JMC and the district’s official social accounts for updates about the following day’s schedule as the tournament progresses.
