Check park facilities before a late-fall camping trip
A quick check before packing could prevent a chilly surprise.

There is still time for a fall camping trip, but check the water and showers before packing.
Iowa state parks have begun their winter transition, and the services available can change from one campground to the next. The Department of Natural Resources says winterization may include shutting off water, closing shower houses and taking dump stations out of service.
Off-season campsite rates began October 16. Some campgrounds stay open during colder months; others close for the season.
Before heading out, check the individual park’s alerts and reservation page, or contact park staff with questions. An open campsite does not necessarily mean every facility is operating.
Park updates are available at https://www.iowadnr.gov/stateparks and reservations at https://iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com/ . A quick check now can help avoid a surprise after you arrive.
